grommet machine usedMost grommets used on clothes are plastic and put on with a large grommet machine or with a hand held machine.  Grommets are what you find on tennis shoes, belts, and clothes such as bodices and corsets. They can be plastic, rubber, or metal.  They are now making an alternative to grommets that look and feel better when used on fabrics.

These alternatives are eyelets and come in black and white colors in addition to the nickel and brass.  Eyelets are made from aluminum.  They will not corrode regardless of moisture.  In order to use them, you also need to buy washers.

The hand held grommet tool you can purchase is a hammer style kit.  You can get this kit with brass or nickel grommets, a hammer style hole punch and setting.  These grommets are of industrial strength and made to last a long time.  You can also buy an upholstery tool.  There are tools to put grommets in sails and T-tops, draperies, boat canvas and other outdoor items.

There are so many grommet machine for sale online at various websites.  If you want a smaller machine to attach eyelets, you can find these in a fabric or craft store.  For grommets, you can check out hardware stores.

The grommet press is a machine that is usually bench or table mounted.  It lets you set grommets with less noise, effort and faster. It is made of cast iron steel and has machined steel working parts. You do not have to worry about hammering them in any longer.  The press does it for you.  It is more for a person or business who does more than a few grommets on a regular basis.

This type of grommet machine is for putting grommets on banners, tarps, or canvas.  A perfect tool for sign company. Some come with a spring-assisted stroke.  Each grommet will be put on with the exact same pressure. Some even have interchangeable self-piercing dies that eliminates the need to pre-punch on some materials.  They now have a new grommet machine called a pneumatic press that uses compressed air.
